Stress
Our muscles can become taut as a result of stress, making the possibility of a strain more likely.
If you get stressed on a regular basis, the chance of stress-related injuries increases.
Posture
Bad posture, such as hunching your back and craning your neck, when texting or reading can cause neck pain over time. Be more aware of your posture when performing daily activities and avoid poor posture.
When sleeping, try to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side can compress your spine causing neck pain.
Carrying heavy weights
Our spines bend and strain when we bear so much weight, particularly when carrying it unevenly, which can lead to injury and pain.
Pinched nerve
A pinched nerve is when a nerve in the neck is compressed where it branches out from the spinal cord. This can cause pain radiating through the shoulder and/or arm. It can also cause muscle weakness and numbness.
Whiplash
The soft tissues of the neck are strained as the head is jerked backward and then forward. Along with whiplash, headaches, low back pain, and dizziness may also be associated.
Age
Age increases susceptibility to medical conditions, such as arthritis, which cause neck pain.
Headaches/Migraines
A symptom of migraines includes neck pain, which may only be intermittent, so you may only have neck pain with the onset of a migraine.
